Handlooms of India highlighted at the British Parliament.

Bhubaneswar, 27/11/23 ( Pratyusha Bureau ):Handlooms of different regions of India were highlighted at the House of Lords of British Parliament on 21st November 2023. The event titled Hasta Shilpam marking the World Heritage Week was organised by Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence, a UK based arts charity and was hosted by Baroness Verma, UK’s former Minister for Energy and Climate Change and presently Chancellor of Roehampton University. Speaking on the occasion, Baroness Verma called attention to preservation of traditions and heritage and commended Sanskruti Centre for its continued efforts in raising awareness of different aspects of culture, heritage and art. Handlooms and weaving traditions of Rajasthan, Sindh, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and Odisha were presented through enriching presentations and fascinating dances by Dr Anjali Sharma Tiwari, Dr Lakhumal Luhana, Dr Pritha Dasmahapatra, Taba Menia, Manju Sunil, Madhushree Murthy, Harsha Rani, Ananya Vilina and Vanamala Acha. Introduced by renowned Singer-Song writer Renu Gidoomal, Dr Rosalin Patasani Mishra of Parichay Foundation passionately spoke about Santhali weaving tradition and how the foundation is working with different clusters in Odisha and beyond. The event received exceptional feedback from the attendees for its rich and meaningful content. Union Minister for Tribal Affairs honourable Arjun Munda, Union Minister for Textiles honourable Piyush Goyal, Culture Minister of Arunachal Pradesh honourable Taba Tedir and Culture Minister of Odisha honourable Aswini Kumar Patra have all sent their best messages to Sanskruti Centre on the occasion.
